Top 10 Stylish Celebrity Dads
Sunday, June 19th, 2016
Father’s Day has come and gone for another year. In light of this though, we thought we should celebrate some of the most stylish celebrity dads.
We hope everyone got to celebrate their fathers, whether they are with you or not.
Here are 10 stylish; celebrity dads that we think deserve a shout out!
Justin Timberlake, well known singer and actor, ditched the boyband look many years ago and now is well known for his on trend hair and suits. Currently father to one son, Silas, with his wife Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake is a very stylish dad.
Actor in many people’s film favourites, like The Notebook and Drive, Ryan is father to two daughters Esmeralda and Amada. Though the family is a private one and the avoid showing their children to paparazzi, Ryan and his wife Eva Mendes are a very attractive, stylish couple.
Chris Pratt, known for his roles in Parks and Recreation and Guardians of the Galaxy, is the father to one son, Jack. He has spoken about his love for his son, and his wife Ana Farris, countless times. Though he likes a more laid back look, when he gets suited up he shows his ability to rock a tailored suit.
Controversial rapper Kanye West only seems to smile in the company of his family, wife Kim Kardashian-West and children North and Saint. Kanye has earned his style chops with his own fashion line, but we also bet he’s a fantastic father to his kids.
Thor actor Chris Hemsworth has been seen carrying his children in carriers numerous times. Again his family life is kept relatively quiet but he’s been snapped many a time playing and looking after his three children India and twins Tristan and Sasha. He always looks sharp on the red carpet.
We feel like we always mention David Beckham but he is in these lists for a reason. He is always perfectly styled from head to toe, along with the rest of his family. He’s had four children with wife Victoria Beckham: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
We didn’t actually know til recently that Idris Elba had children but now that we do, we knew he had to go straight onto this list. Father to Winston and Isan, Idris is always impeccably dressed. He’d be a great James Bond, that’s all we’re saying…
Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka
Now we have two for the price of one here, husbands NPH and David Burtka have a son and daughter. We wait for their Halloween costumes with their children Harper and Gideon every year. 2015 was Star Wars themed and we loved it. Though they dress great they get style points for the costumes alone.
Tom Fletcher is the quirky dad; if you haven’t seen his wedding speech or pregnancy videos you don’t know what you’re missing. His style is a little different to the rest of the people on this list but that’s why we love it, he’s totally individual and a wonderfully geeky father to his sons Buzz and Buddy.
There’s our list, let us know if we’ve missed anyone you think should be a part of it!
5 Product’s Everyone’s Talking About: May
Friday, May 27th, 2016
Make up is so fast moving. There are new collections out constantly and we just can’t keep up sometimes!
However, from Kylie’s new liquid lips to budget concealers, we’re going to mention a few beauty products that have been making a splash this week!
We are going to quickly discuss 5 make up pieces that have been getting talked about this week, hopefully you’ll find something you desire in the collection…
Kylie’s Lip Kit in the colour Majesty
This one was obviously going to be here. Kylies lip kits are notoriously good, with matte and metallic lipsticks as well as lip-glosses. Everyone wants one of these. However, fans were keen to see a black lip in the range and Kylie obliged. She debuted the shade on Snapchat, showing off the matte, yet metallic nature of the kit. It even had blue undertones! Needless to say it might not be a day-to-day shade but we want it nonetheless.
Barry M Illuminating Strobe Cream
Yes, yes we know, there is a new highlighter every other day that you NEED to try. It comes in two shades to suit lighter and darker skin tones and its only £4.99 as well so that’s a massive plus! It’s handy and small and applies like a soft sheeny finish. It’s everything you could want and we suggest you give it a go!
Urban Decay’s Vice Collection
As you may know Urban Decay pulled all their lipsticks to release a new collection. This is the vice collection, fronted by Ruby Rose. Vice will feature all of the current UD shades, as well as a few discontinued colours, some limited-edition beauties and a few newbie’s in a whole range of finishes (six, to be exact): Mega Matte, Comfort Matte, Cream, Metalized, Sheer, and Sheer Shimmer. It’s going to be the biggest lipstick launch ever and we cannot wait. The also aim to be really nourishing for your lips with vitamin C, aloe, avocado oil, and babassu oil. Each one will be £15.
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
Its hard to get an amazing concealer for an amazing price, before it was all about the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer as a money saving dupe for higher priced brands. Now the Fit Me concealer has stepped in. described as being a long lasting, non-cakey and blendable. Big name beauty bloggers and even make up artists have been talking about their love for this concealer and at £5.99 it’s a good buy too.
Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette
Everyone loves Too Faced palettes with their super blendable pigments and their gorgeous packaging but the Sweet Peach Palette has been getting a lot of love. It has super summery shades, as well as darker ones, and obviously it smells of peaches! Everyone has been raving about it and for good reason! Price – roughly £33
We hope we’ve influenced your next make up splurge if you don’t already have these products in mind!
4 Mens Hairstyles for Spring/Summer 2016
Wednesday, May 4th, 2016
We’re now well into spring and on the way to summer, so why not revamp your style to suit the season?
It seems like women get the majority of the attention when it comes to summer style, particularly in the hair department, but Defacto are here to bring you some new ideas for your spring/summer barnet.
Male grooming is more important than ever and so it should be! So, take pride in your appearance and have a look at our 4 suggestions for your next hair appointment.
The days of the slicked quiff are over, now its all about texture and volume. You’ll want to have a good bit of length at the top, with the use of point cutting to create the texture and ensure you keep a bit more length at the fringe to create the actual quiff.
A no. 4 on the back and sides is recommended but if you’re looking for a more dramatic cut you will want to maybe go a little shorter.
To style it try putting hair putty or hair paste into towel dried hair. For extra volume and hold you can try your hand at salt spray, a great product for creating texture.
This is a messy style with a lot of texture and is ideal for those with short-mid length hair. This style suits most face shapes but the more defined and angular your bone structure is then the shorter you can go at the back and sides to highlight your features.
You can style it by applying a very small amount (around the size of a pea) to towel dried hair before blow-drying the remaining moisture. Try a matte paste to show off your natural texture. Use products that have a firm hold but don’t dry hard, you don’t want to loose flexibility and movement from the hair.
Longer hair on men has been a growing trend for a while now. Especially with the recent man bun trend. Long hair looks best with full facial hair or a bit of stubble and is most suited to men with masculine faces.
Keep in mind that long hair takes patience (around 8 to 12 months of no length cutting). Product wise its best to just let the hair fall in its natural state. The less product, the better. Just be sure to invest in a good quality conditioner.
A classy haircut that never really goes out of style. It’s versatile in the way that it suits both a working and a social life if you’re in a serious business setting. Hair on the side can be clippered to around an inch long, with at least four inches on the top to make sure the slicked style will stay in place.
To style it, run a comb through wet hair to set it in a natural parting. Then apply gel or pomade to set the style in place.
Do you think you’ll try something new or stick with your old favourite do?

The Stars Shine at the Met Gala 2016
Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016
Yesterday marked 2016’s annual Met Gala.
The night of the year where celebrities and influential people gather at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and participate in the themed black tie event.
This years theme and exhibit was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an age of Technology”. This aims to explore the relationship between clothes created by hand as opposed to clothes created by mass production (the machine). Haute Couture Vs fast produced garments to meet high demand. The Exhibit charts the evolution of fashion from the creation of the sewing machine to the current mass production of clothes we see today.
Anna Wintour and Apple’s Jonathan Ive came together to be the events co-chairs and as expected metallics and slicked back hair were a strong feature of the night. However, more accessible brands like J Crew and H&M were also seen on the red carpet by stars like Hailee Steinfeld and Lena Dunham.
Here at Defacto we want to show you our six favourite looks of the night.
Starting with Beyonce and her latex Givenchy dress.
We didn’t think she could top her sheer detailed dress from last year but here we are. The nude latex dress, with puffy shoulders, was studded with pearls, which reportedly cost £8000 per pearl! She also sported sleek straight hair and smoky eyes.
Zendaya is a total chameleon on the red carpet. This time around she wore a slinky Michael Korrs dress.
She’s the only person we’ve known that can make a bowl cut look good. Her sleek do coupled with her gold metallic gown made her look like some kind of futuristic queen.
Blake Lively is known for her elegant gowns at the MET Gala but this years Burberry dress was something else.
The pink gown features red floral detailing and a long trailing cape. Her classy up-do, simple red lip and her low key make up truly made her look like a princess.
Lupita Nyong’o impressed everyone with her towering hair do but she impressed us with her style and her Calvin Klein dress.
This dress is from a collection which Emma Watson and Margo Robbie also wore dresses from. The shimmering sea foam green metallic elements of the dress make it so eye-catching. The shaping and the plunge neckline are truly a compliment to her figure and this dress and look as a whole were a standout of the night.
Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid made their red carpet debut as a couple. Therefore they are being judged as one.
Zayn wore a custom made Versace suit and opted for a metal gauntlet and arm piece instead of a tie. His fashion choice here really incorporated the theme of the night and went well with Gigi’s Tommy Hilfiger dress. Her strapless bodice was tied together with a semi sheer skirt. The fabric continues up to a choker around her neck and is cinched in at the waist with a metallic belt. Great couple outfit!
Lastly, Claire Danes showed up looking like a modern day Cinderella in a Zac Posen ball gown.
The full skirt and structured bodice is a timeless and simple design choice but somehow this gown is still so striking and impressive. The way the fabric folds and kicks out is so beautiful. That’s not all though. It turned out that us wondering how this may have incorporated the machine aspect of the night wasn’t necessary as her dress literally lit up!
So many striking and beautiful looks at the Met Gala this year, did you have a favourite?
Dyson reveals new £300 Hairdryer
Wednesday, April 27th, 2016
Dyson has revealed its first styling product with the price tag of £300
A hairdryer that they claim is quieter and not as damaging to the users hair than a conventional hairdryer.
It’s the first hairdryer that has been produced with and powered by a miniaturised air pump in the handle. This means it uses the same airflow that all Dyson desk fan products use. It is said that Dyson have invested £50 million in the manufacture and development of this device, but the cost of £299 to customers pits it much higher in price to a standard hairdryer. This Dyson machine will even cost twice as much as a salon-grade machine.
Speaking to the BBC Thidathip Tawichai, analyst at Euromonitor International said:
“People do spend a lot of money to take care of their hair.”
“People in developed markets usually look after their personal care more and buy more expensive products.”
“But £300 is very expensive and a lot to invest in a hairdryer. People like to follow fashions and spend a little money trying different things,”
Although Dyson is most popular for its vacuum cleaner and the well known Dyson Airblade, company founder Sir James Dyson has said that producing a hairdryer was an ‘obvious’ choice. In his mind the high speed motors they have made and their work with airflow led to the expansion into hairdryers.
Their invention aims to eliminate the limitations of conventional hairdryers. The slower airflow and styling attachments lead to hair being overheated; causing dull and damaged hair, and Sir James has defended the price of his new product by saying:
“Not damaging your hair, that’s worth a lot of money.”
Nowadays women are looking for products that will reduce damage or restore their hair, with 20% aiming for products that claim to be less damaging. Therefore, they believe the new Dyson hairdryer will do well in both a customer and a professional capacity. Although, Sir James has said he believes it’s not the amount of sales that’s important, it’s how satisfied the customer is. He wants whoever buys it to thinks its really good, no matter how many or how few buy it. It will first go on sale in Japan.
So what do you think? Would you pay £300 for a hairdryer?

For a while now, eyebrows have been the centre of the beauty industry. HD Brows, eyebrow kits, brow gel and threading are some of the few newer techniques and products that have emerged due to the world’s fascination with brows. However. Eyebrows, much like clothes, have experienced their own trends throughout the decades. Lets go back to the 50s, a real decade for glamour, and begin our exploration through the eras of the eyebrow.
The fifties were steeped in Hollywood glamour, as we said, and this meant there was a great deal of glamorous women. Beautiful women need beautiful eyebrows. Eyebrows in the 50s were generally quite bold. Arched, thick and manicured to match the stars they were on.
As shown by Anita Ekberg and Marilyn Monroe, having a noticeable arch in your brows was common, creating a dramatic framing for your eyes.
Stars like Audrey Hepburn and Natalie Wood had a more natural brow, both suitably dark and bold and still manicured but not to the extent where they looked overly so.
In the 60s the arched brow was IN. Though slightly more slender, a high arch in your brow was the way to go. Unlike the 50s however, the arch was more rounded and less like the dramatic angular point. Iconic photos like the one of Twiggy show this perfectly.
The 70s welcomed a significantly more natural looking brow. With some, like Ali MacGraw, not partaking in any sort of grooming. This was an era where people felt a lot more free to be their natural selves. This was definitely an era of the natural brow.
Both thick and thin eyebrows were featured in the 80s, as a decade of self-expression; people were free to do what they wanted. Whether they were a Cindy Lauper or a Whitney Houston. Anything would go in this experimental era.
Both Natural brows like Molly Ringwald and big bold brows like young Madonna were around. It just depended on personal preference.
Pencil thin eyebrows were what EVERYONE had in the 90s. Some were plucked or waxed until there was virtually nothing there and some were literally just a single line of eyebrow pencil.
Although, some women swapped out product for naturally thicker brows.
In the noughties, brows were a bit fuller, almost like all those people who plucked them within an inch of their life, or entirely shaved them off in the 90s were regretting their decision and growing them back. It was a time for less product and growing your brows back.
Now we’re in the present day. Nowadays the brow market is booming. Products are flying off the shelf and now having naturally good eyebrows is the greatest gift you can be blessed with. It means it gives you a fantastic base for making them even better! With celebrities like Cara Delevingne and Lily Collins have amazing natural brows.
Using a little or a lot of product is an everyday routine for your brows now. With having to keep up with your eyebrow goals celebrities, you need to be applying SOMETHING to them each day. The bigger and bolder the better.
Filling in your eyebrows and in some cases creating them entirely out of product is how we live now and that’s great!
You can have any kind of eyebrow you want!
From Kylie Jenner to Hawaiian Shirts: Our Coachella 2016 Favs!
Tuesday, April 19th, 2016
With the first weekend of American music festival Coachella having come and gone it gives us time to reflect on the style highlights.
Though there are some pretty outlandish outfits and style choices, here at Defacto, we chose to show you some of our personal favorites.
8) We loved Freida Pinto’s cute and feminine floral cropped bandeau top, paired with short dungarees and nude peep toe heels.
7) Brooklyn Beckham showed off his style chops with a red semi sheer Hawaiian shirt. Something we’d be used to seeing quirky dresser Harry Styles in, but Brooklyn rocks it in his own right!
6) Shay Mitchell wore a simple black playsuit with mid-length float-y sleeves and a plunging neckline. Her choice was understated and sexy but topped off with a statement choker; it makes it so much more special.
5) Crochet is always a feature at any festival but Kendall Jenner jumped in feet first with this dress. Definitely not something your average visitor to T in the Park would be able to strut about in but pretty all the same. She also chose to wear messy double buns and tried her hand at the Internet trend for glitter roots.
4) Coming in at number four, we have reigning Coachella Queen Vanessa Hudgens. She’s here simply because we are proud she is retaining her title and giving us consistent style and boho chic.
3) Appearing at the Calvin Klein party, Amandla Stenberg makes the rest of us feel like we’re trying too hard with the effortless level of cool she exudes. Her Calvin Klein sportswear combined with loose trousers and white trainers is a look we could only pull off at home, but she makes it look like the future.
2) It wouldn’t be a popular event without Kylie Jenner in a wig, and so far she’s worn two equally eye-catching hairpieces. The peach one is something we’ve never thought of but suddenly desperately need and the multicoloured pastel rainbow one is something we’ve seen on Instagram and now want even more.
1) Cute couple Jayden Smith and Sarah Snyder made Coachella seem like there was nobody else there but them. Seen kissing, holding hands and even cart wheeling the two young lovebirds made us want to go and share the festival experience with someone special. Also they look so incredibly cool.
Tell us who your highlight of Coachella’s first weekend, whether it be a dress, a celeb or a performance!
Huda Kattan Reveals Her Skin Secret!
Monday, April 18th, 2016
Famous beauty vlogger Huda Kattan shocked her 12.8 million Instagram followers by admitting that she shaves her facial hair.
Kattan claimed that women shaving their facial hair was very common in Asia and has been “going on for decades”
She jumped head first into her confession by posting a 30 second clip of herself covered in shaving foam with a mans razor. Though that’s not the actual method she used, it generated 16,000 comments in under 24 hours, with some followers commenting their disgust. One commenter questions if “this was a thing now”, while another complained: “First neck contouring and now this!” and someone simply stating their discomfort with her video by saying “ew.” However, a lot of women came forward to confirm that they also shaved off their facial hair to achieve a smoother base for make up or to aid in facial exfoliation. One person thanked her for the video and someone else wrote: “I personally have shaved my face and for me as well it is great. I haven’t grown anything back hairy than normal growth.”
The video posted to her YouTube channel showed the 32 year old using a small collection of blades to buff away pesky facial hair using small ‘rubbing’ motions. They key is to do it lightly so as not to irritate or cut the skin and to start with a dry and make up free face. The aim is not to shave off thick noticeable hair she says that shaving will not only rid you of ‘peach fuzz’ but also exfoliate your skin and help with scarring, anti-ageing and make-up application.
She explained: ‘I started doing it and I love it, I cannot stop doing it and I actually do it to my clients before putting make-up on their face because it just looks so much better.’
In the video she removes the hair around her cheeks and hairline and rounds it off by saying that, for her, face shaving is an essential routine for her though it is not easy to do. She also says she carries her small razors with her wherever she goes because “you never know who might just need a little shaving.”
Kattan has previously spoken of issues with facial hair, describing how after falling pregnant with her only child hair that she had already had removed with laser hair removal, came back worse than before. The post was part of a Q&A on her blog back in 2013 entitled ‘The Ugly Truth’. Huda claims that the myth of hair growing back thicker and stronger isn’t the case when shaving dry and other beauty gurus have been quick to echo her love for dry shaving with YouTuber Dida stating: “It really helps and boosts confidence. I was so insecure but I started shaving a few months ago and don’t even think about facial hair anymore.’”
Though it has been described as a ‘taboo’ for a woman to shave facial hair, it isn’t as uncommon as you might think! Hollywood starlets like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor also shaved off facial hair for the same reasons Huda does, for a better base for make up application and to help exfoliate their skin. Though you might not literally shave your facial hair off, women remove or disguise facial hair every day through methods like waxing and bleaching.
So what we at Defacto want to know is, if it meant better skin and better make up, would you use Huda Kattan’s hair removal method?
Why should this be considered a taboo for women?
Ageless Beauty – Ten Sexy Woman over 60
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015
Age. Some people say it ain’t nothing but a number, but with so much emphasis on youth, many women are left wondering if it’s still possible to look sexy over 60. And the answer is a resounding hell yes! They were actresses, athletes, showgirls, mothers, wives and businesswomen but have managed to keep a level of time defying elegance that seems to defy the laws of science. Today we look at some of the most beautiful woman in Hollywood over the age of 60. They may be old enough to be some people’s grandmothers, but even to this day are the epitome of glamour.
Goldie Hawn 69
Is that Goldie Hawn or her daughter Kate Hudson? The original big eyed ‘it girl’ has made extremely good use of her sense of humour by crediting her enviable physique to positive thinking. “When you are in a better state of mind, a healthier state of mind, the body reacts,” Looking great Goldie!
Christie Brinkley 61
The fact that the supermodel and actress, Christie Brinkley, is 61 is unbelievable and, quite frankly, unfair. Brinkley puts vegetarianism down to her incredible youthful appearance. Pass the carrots please.
Cher 69 (?)
Although no one really knows what age Cher actually is, all we need to know is she is looking more incredible than ever. As the new face of Marc Jacobs, the 60 something Cher showed off her 20 something face and the internet stood still. Time may pass by but Cher will forever be a beauty icon for decades to come.
Jessica Lange 66
Jessica Lange can do no wrong in our eyes. Since hitting mainstream screens on American Horror Story, playing powerful sensual roles has always been her forte. Now the face of Marc Jacob’s beauty line, Jessica shows she is very much still the sex pot who wriggled out of rope ties in King Kong back in 1976. What a woman.
Susan Sarandon 68
At 68, Susan Sarandon looks better than many actresses 30 years her junior. Actually, make that 40. Mind, body, soul, Sarandon has it going on. Jealous? Us? Yes.
Apart from helping millions of people around the world with her caring nature, time and advice, we can’t help but think Oprah is looking better with every year. It’s clear that being officially the most successful woman in the world hasn’t got in the way of her beauty regime!
Meryl Streep 65
Meryl is one of those actresses often held up as an example of ‘women who are surprisingly glamorous despite being past 60!’ It’s a tired and annoying cliche, however, really it would be impossible to create a list like this without her in it. As beautiful as she is talented, Streep holds the record of having the most Academy Awards than any other actor. And they say you can’t have it all?
Tina Turner 75
Her face is remarkably unlined, her figure as trim as ever and those famous legs are still sensational. At 75 Tina Turner just gets better with each passing decade.
Helen Mirren 69
Age hasn’t slowed this lady down! Over the course of her career, Dame Helen Mirren has taken home an Academy Award, four BAFTAs, three Golden Globes and four Emmys – all while looking absolutely fabulous. You go girl!
Cailtyn Jenner 65
How could we not mention the absolutely stunning Caitlyn Jenner? We all seen her debut on Vanity Fair this month and were blown away by her beauty. THAT’S how you break the Internet, Kim.
While you may feel like looking hot is a young person’s game, these incredible woman are showing the world that age does not define beauty. If anything it shows there really is truth in the saying that when you feel good, you look good too – not matter what your age is. Always remember ladies, looking and feeling sexy should always be on your own terms. What’s your beauty secrets? Tweet us over at @Defacto_Salons.
