Microblading: What is it?

Microblading is the new way to get perfect eyebrows.

Eyebrows are arguably the most important facial feature, no matter how you like them; arched and feathered or straight and bold.

If you’re not satisfied with the ones you have, there are so many ways to update them (some of which we have covered here), including brow gel, pencils, and even tattooing. But now there’s a very natural option that delivers semi-permanent results. You’ve maybe heard of microblading before. Unlike the sometimes Sharpie-like effects of permanent makeup, microblading is more of fake solution done in strokes that look just like real hairs.

Jade Trapanotto, founder of Beyond the Brows says:

“It puts the finest hairs back into eyebrows producing the best definition and dimension possible”,
“It originated in Asia and is also known as brow embroidery. It’s a fantastic treatment for anyone looking to improve or enhance the appearance of their eyebrows.”

The main difference is that a manual pen-like tool with tiny needles is used instead of a permanent makeup machine, so the strokes aren’t blurry. If you’re still not sure how the technique differs from tattooing, keep listening. During the microblading process a special microblading pen is used to draw on individual strokes one by one. It’s an extremely meticulous process that takes around two hours to complete.

Since the results will last for up to three years before beginning to fade it’s good to know that the technicians pay so much attention to detail. The first hour the shape is drawn in with removable pencil. That’s the longest part and the most important step. During this time, the best customized shape for every client is chosen. Professional microbladers advise clients to be cautious of places that claim to complete the process in one hour. This is not a rushed procedure and it cannot be done in an hour. Anaesthetic will be applied to the area to avoid discomfort, although the procedure shouldn’t be painful.

One of the best parts of this technique is that your brows are good to go immediately after application. Professionals, however, recommend a follow-up one-month after your appointment. The healing process is different for everyone, and it takes between 25 and 30 days. After a month it is recommended a client should have a 40-minute touch-up. After they have been done there is little to no maintenance. They will not rub off and they won’t smudge. Microblading typically costs around $700 to $800, so £480 to £550 here in the UK, but it will give you prefect brows every morning.
