Dyson has revealed its first styling product with the price tag of £300

A hairdryer that they claim is quieter and not as damaging to the users hair than a conventional hairdryer.

It’s the first hairdryer that has been produced with and powered by a miniaturised air pump in the handle. This means it uses the same airflow that all Dyson desk fan products use. It is said that Dyson have invested £50 million in the manufacture and development of this device, but the cost of £299 to customers pits it much higher in price to a standard hairdryer. This Dyson machine will even cost twice as much as a salon-grade machine.

Speaking to the BBC Thidathip Tawichai, analyst at Euromonitor International said:

“People do spend a lot of money to take care of their hair.”

“People in developed markets usually look after their personal care more and buy more expensive products.”

“But £300 is very expensive and a lot to invest in a hairdryer. People like to follow fashions and spend a little money trying different things,”

Although Dyson is most popular for its vacuum cleaner and the well known Dyson Airblade, company founder Sir James Dyson has said that producing a hairdryer was an ‘obvious’ choice. In his mind the high speed motors they have made and their work with airflow led to the expansion into hairdryers.

Their invention aims to eliminate the limitations of conventional hairdryers. The slower airflow and styling attachments lead to hair being overheated; causing dull and damaged hair, and Sir James has defended the price of his new product by saying:

“Not damaging your hair, that’s worth a lot of money.”

Nowadays women are looking for products that will reduce damage or restore their hair, with 20% aiming for products that claim to be less damaging. Therefore, they believe the new Dyson hairdryer will do well in both a customer and a professional capacity. Although, Sir James has said he believes it’s not the amount of sales that’s important, it’s how satisfied the customer is. He wants whoever buys it to thinks its really good, no matter how many or how few buy it. It will first go on sale in Japan.
