How to Get Big Brows

Friday, November 11th, 2016

Do you think you’re lacking in the eyebrow department? Don’t worry! We’re going to tell you some sure fire ways to get big brows!

We’re well and truly into the autumn/winter seasons. As far as make up goes, it’s a time for statement lips, smoky eyes and, also, big brows! The heavier your make up is, the more your eyebrows can get swallowed by everything else. So, in our humble opinion, this is the time to get those big statement brows.

We’re going to give you some options on how you can do that.

Don’t tweeze!

Lay off preening them yourself. Getting a professional to shape your brows to the right style for you if fine but you have to be prepared to leave them alone. Big brows don’t come to those who tweeze. You may also want to reconsider the strength of light you use when you’re grooming your brows. According to experts, brows are best tended to in soft dull lighting. If you have strong lighting you’ll see hairs you don’t normally notice and end up over plucking.

Promote Growth.

In order for your big brows to grow, the hair needs to be in an environment that promotes hair growth. This means, your skin needs to be well hydrated and nourished. You could try putting a light coating of almost any oil over your eyebrows. We wrote a blog on the usefulness of coconut oil a while back. Check that out! Oil creates a barrier that locks in moisture. But, it also increases circulation while stimulating cellular metabolism. This, in turn, promotes hair growth. You can also use Vaseline for a similar method as it helps the skins natural recovery method.

Try a serum.

Eyebrow growth serums are fairly common now. Who doesn’t want big brows! You can apply them daily and you should be able to find one within your price range. Eyebrow enhancing serums are created with hair growth in mind. They’ll contain proteins and peptides to target the production and strengthening of your hair. You can try RapidBrow Enhancing Serum (£37). It is boosted with a unique blend of fortifying proteins, stimulating peptides and nourishing ingredients designed to help condition, restore and repair the appearance of your eyebrows in 60 days.

Use Make up.

Even people with full brows fill in or enhance them with make up. So why not use make up to create yourself a whole new set of big brows! There are so many products on the market these days for eyebrow enhancement. A safe bet is always an eyebrow pencil or a pressed powder. however, you have to be sure that you don’t overdo it and end up with sharpie brows. You can try one of our previous blogs to give you some ideas on what products may work for you.

Grow Grow Grow!

They best way to get believable big brows is to try growing them out. This is the only way you’ll get naturally thicker eyebrows. Brows grow in a 3 – 4 month cycle, so step relax the tweezers for at least 12 weeks. They’re going to look odd to begin with but if you stick at it you’ll see a huge difference. Brush them every day with an eyebrow brush to promote growth.

We hope this has helped you in your quest for big brows! It’ll look a little awkward at first but you’ll thank yourself later. Do you have any tips on growing out your brows? We’d love to hear them!

How to Make Curls Last Longer!

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

Curling your hair can change your look from casual to glamorous but keeping them in can be a bit more of a challenge. How can you make curls last longer?

Different hair has different temperaments and you cant always rely on one technique suiting all. You can curl you hair with tongs as much as you want. You can saturate it with hair spray but it may not always work. So, here are 5 ways to make curls last longer!

Change your cut

If you have particularly thick or long hair, you’ll probably struggle to make curls last longer. The longer your hair gets, the heavier it is and the harder it’ll be to get a uniform curl to stay. You may find the ends go frizzy and curly, but the lengths fall flat. You have a few options to fix this. Firstly, get lots of layers chopped in — especially around the front — to reduce weight and give the hair some bounce. You should find that these shorter sections curl better. Secondly, chop your hair a few inches shorter. The simple truth is super long hair will not curl easily if it’s naturally straight. Finally, if you can’t bear to face the scissors, try twisting wet hair into a bun (or two buns for very thick hair) and sleeping on it.

Leave it to set

One of the biggest mistakes we make when trying to make curls last longer is to use a tool like a tong, wand, or styler. These are great for ease of use and will give a nice temporary curl, but those curls will drop very quickly, especially if you have fine hair, or very heavy, long locks. You can still use your heated tools for a longer lasting curl, just add in one extra step. Clip each tonged coil to your head as you curl it, letting it sit on the head until it’s completely cooled down. Speed things up with the cold setting on your hair dryer, and only shake the hair out when it’s stone cold. Your curls will last twice as long this way.

Try hot rollers

Hot rollers are great for retro waves and styles that require lots of body, but most tutorials tell you to leave them in for only 10 or 20 minutes. This is fine if you’re using them for volume or to smooth hair ready for an updo, but if you want curls that last through a night of dancing, then you need to let those hot rollers cool completely… which in our experience can take up to a couple of hours in thick or long hair. Plan ahead and keep your rollers in as long as you can. And don’t forget to use a styling product!

Changing the state

The best way to make a curl stay in hair that is not naturally curly is to change the state of the hair as you curl; do this by going from wet to dry or from hot to cold. A wet set is more gentle and will always last the longest as the hair dries in shape. To do a wet set, wash and towel-dry hair, add your chosen holding product, then create your curls either with velcro rollers, your fingers, rags, or bendy rollers (don’t use tongs or heated tools on wet hair).

Don’t forget product!

When you’re trying to get your hair to do something it doesn’t naturally do, you need to give it a helping hand. Don’t expect a tong or ghd styler to work miracles on its own. Use some product! Firstly, for hot tools you’ll need a heat protector. You can pick up heat protectant for various prices and their easy to get a hold of. Then choose a holding product that will give added oomph. If you hair has a natural wave, a curl-enhancing mousse will be good. But if you have straight hair, you’ll need something really powerful. You can speak to your hairdresser about products that’ll suit your hair type.

How To Keep Your Holiday Tan For Longer

Friday, July 29th, 2016

So you’re back from your holiday and you’ve got an amazing tan. You want to keep it, right? Of course you do. Don’t worry; we’re here to help you find out how you can keep your holiday tan!

Getting your summer tan and keeping it

We’re going to go through 7 hints and tips to keep your natural tan for as long as possible or ways to cheat your way into accentuating it! So lets get started!

Get ready and keep going

Exfoliation is key

Exfoliation is key

Preparing your skin for your holiday is essential; you’ll get a better tan if you prep your skin beforehand. So obviously exfoliating all the dead skin from your body before you jet off. Removing dead skin allows the tan to take more evenly and though you might not believe it you should do it when you get back as well. A tan takes to your skin deeper than you think so exfoliating the dead skin when you get back wont remove your tan but will stop your skin looking dry.

Be cautious

It may be tempting to get there and just park on a sun bed and fry yourself til you get a good tan but that’s not the way to do it. Frying yourself means you’ll burn and peel and that peeling means you will loose the tan you’ve been building up that day. Use a good SPF and take breaks from being in the sun. You’ll get a better and more even tan.

Embrace your home climate

When you’re home it’ll be undeniably colder, you shouldn’t give into taking warmer showers to get some of that heat back. Showers that are too hot dry out the skin, take cooler showers and invest in nourishing products that contain aloe vera, shea butter or jojoba oil.

Ensure longevity

You may hear of tablets and oils that claim to be tan accelerators, these aren’t recommended and may not be too good for your skin. Instead, try tan primers before you head out into the sun or supplements that promote your natural ability to tan. You could also use after sun with a slight self-tanning agent or just before you go, push the boat out and go for a natural fake tan.

Keep your skin hydrated

When you get home, you’ll need to be sure that you are keeping yourself hydrated. Drinking lots of water and moisturizing your skin will help your skin stay in good condition.

Fake it

Getting a little boost is nothing to be ashamed about, your tan will fade unevenly so heading to a professional and letting them identify where needs a little filling in. you’ll retain your even tan, even though it might not be the genuine article.

Fake it with fashion

Everyone knows the age-old trick of wearing white to make you look more tanned. White isn’t the only colour you should be trying! Pastel colours, like blues and pinks, go a long way to accentuate your natural colouring. If you are dark haired and darker skinned, black will do a lot for you also.

Nobody wants to loose their holiday tan but it’s going to happen eventually, we hope these tips have helped you really get your mileage out of it.
